Dr. Mary Jo Stralka has been a practicing marriage and family counselor since 1992. She has also taught as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Washington University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, Barnes College of Nursing, and University of Missouri, St. Louis. She has been married for over 30 years and has two adult children. She has special education and skills in child, adolescent and family development, conflict resolution, changing behavior, and improving communication.
Dr. Mary Jo works with individuals, couples and families. Her practice is research and experience based. She is interested in helping clients improve their situations. Dr. Mary Jo routinely meets with the family because circumstances improve faster and more positively when everyone is involved. Her intention is to help clients realize the consequences of their actions and adjust behaviors. She has special skills in marital counseling, working with families with children and adolescents on developmental behavior problems, eating, alcohol, other drugs and family concerns. She works closely with the individual and family to effect the desired changes.
Dr. Stralka has published articles on Depression in Children, Obesity in Children, Family Divorce, Self Esteem of the Young Adult Eating Disorders, and Myths of Therapy, in local and national newspapers. She has written chapters in several nursing texts concerning care of children and families. She has presented locally and nationally on: Eating Disorders, Family Development, Parenting Issues, Child and Adolescent Behavior and internationally on Depression in Children (Ireland), Healing Life's Hurts through Forgiveness (Estonia), and Self Esteem of the Young Adult (Virgin Islands).
